More than 200 of the nation’s most respected artists will exhibit
and sell their latest high-quality, handmade jewelry, furniture,
clothing, home accessories and more, at the largest craft show in the
Southeast – The American Craft Show in Atlanta. Celebrating its 18th year in Atlanta, the Show will be held at a new venue – Cobb Galleria Centre, March 9-11, 2007.
Situated between Buckhead and Cobb County, The American Craft Show in
Atlanta will draw a sophisticated crowd of collectors and enthusiasts.
More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the three-day weekend
event.
Also new to this year’s show is Craft 4 Kids.
Among the intricately hand-blown glass sculptures, woven tapestries,
and ceramic vessels typically for adult use and appreciation, visitors
will also discover handmade objects designed especially for newborns
and children. Award-winning artist Lesley Keeble of Asheville, North
Carolina is just one artist participating in Craft 4 Kids. Her
expressive fabric dolls come dressed in hand-sewn vintage hats and
Victorian corsets and bloomers. And husband and wife team, Carol and
Jean-Pierre Hsu of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia will demonstrate
their colorful aerodynamic mobiles. Perfect for nurseries.
All
artists participating in The American Craft Show in Atlanta have been
selected though a rigorous annual jury process, to assure the admission
of museum-quality work. In addition to Craft 4 Kids, 25 new artists
to the show will be presenting their latest work in a variety of
mediums – glass, metal, wood, clay, ceramics, and fiber, among others.
Worthy of the most discerning collections as well as appropriate for
everyday use, the work presented at The American Craft Show in Atlanta
is accessible to all, ranging from $25 to thousands.
The American Craft Council is pleased to be collaborating with The Atlanta Opera. A vocal artist from the Company will give a free performance at the show on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at 2pm.
The Council is also delighted to announce Cobb Craft Day, an exciting educational partnership with The Cobb County Public School System
that supports and expands the County’s current arts education program
by introducing craft to teachers and students. This initiative includes
high school field trips to The American Craft Show – nine high school
arts classes have been invited – where students will explore the show
floor, talk with exhibiting artists, and discover the wide variety of
craft represented at the show. And the American Craft Council is
working with the Cobb County Public School System to bring K-12 art
teachers to the show for a special educational presentation.
Participating teachers will be admitted for free (and receive two
additional show passes for a return trip), and enjoy a presentation by
four artists who will talk about their work and inspiration.
Show attendees can learn how to decorate with craft during daily Walking Tours presented by Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. These design events are free of charge and are hosted by some of Atlanta’s most prominent interior designers. Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles is a media partner for the show, along with the WSB-TV Family 2 Family Project.
